Where It All Started

It all began on a remote island off the coast of Whakatāne. No power lines. No easy access. Just one dream—to build a high-spec, eco-friendly home that worked with nature, not against it.

Gerry and Simone Magner weren’t just chasing a lifestyle—they were proving a point. That you could reclaim your whenua, live off the land, and still enjoy all the modern comforts—powered entirely by the sun.

So, they did it. And it worked.

From that island home, Solar Options was born. Not in a boardroom. Not from a business plan. But from real-life experience, trial and error, and a whole lot of grit.

We’re not a faceless corporation. We’re a family-owned, Māori-led business with skin in the game. Gerry still runs the show today, alongside his son Tarquin, carrying on Simone’s legacy and passion for helping other Kiwis unlock energy freedom.
